Accuracy of GIA certification

I understand that GIA is an independent body. My family has been in the diamond business for over 80 years and recently saw a clear variation in certifications (especially around color). I suspect these are big diamond dealers who push quantity through the certification process to get better grades than they should, and smaller diamond dealers who get poorer grades, provided they only push through small quantities.

Recently saw a GIA certified “L” color that looked much closer to G or I when compared to other diamonds on hand. What are everyone’s thoughts here?
