Grandma’s diamond in new surroundings. Good idea?

My parents gave my grandmother’s engagement ring. It is a round diamond from the mid 70’s in a very simple yellow gold setting. I brought it to a local jeweler and when I wanted to put it in a gold halo setting for a while, the jeweler suggested that I get the surrounding diamonds with a slightly yellow color that matches the color of my grandmother’s stone as it didn’t is perfectly white (which I understand is common with older diamonds). The goldsmith also recommended that surrounds be made, which is good for me as it would lower the price a bit.

Does all this sound correct? Is there anything else I should consider when getting an old diamond placed in a new frame?
