To ensure that diamond is not replaced

I brought a loose diamond to a jeweler (based on a good friend’s referral) to get them to put the diamond on a ring I bought from them. The process takes a month (they have to order the ring / customize it) and I left the diamond with them. Now I get paranoid that it can be swapped. The only thing I checked was the certification inscription on the diamond belt, but how easy is it for them to inscribe the same ID on another stone? Is there anything I can do when I pick up the ring to make sure the diamond hasn’t been swapped?

I might just be extra paranoid – the jeweler has a reputable (albeit small) business and is relatives with a good friend of mine … but doesn’t hurt to know ways to check the authenticity of what I get back haha.
